No Net Impact: Wildlife Mitigation

Bill Barrett Corporation’s commitment to no net impacts to wildlife in the West Tavaputs area includes:

  • Constructing road re-alignments to avoid wildlife areas and/or to reclaim existing roads within high value wildlife area
  • Implementing habitat improvement and connectivity by improving sage grouse habitat areas and connecting such areas with improved habitat corridors (deer and elk will also benefit from these same habitat projects)
  • Developing wet meadow/summer range improvement to enhance natural springs to provide a water source for sage grouse and other wildlife
  • Building water sources in areas of wildlife use where water is limited
  • Managing grazing practices on the BBC-owned surface lands and more than 30,000 acres of BLM cattle grazing allotments to enhance wildlife forage habitat
  • Committing to two years of non-grazing on these lands to allow wildlife forage to enhance habitat for local wildlife
  • Monitoring wildlife to improve wildlife population information and to help guide future decisions affecting mitigation
